Tuning up your HVAC system to make sure it will last you through the hottest part of summer? Here’s what you’ll want to check to ensure your AC is up to the task!
Conduct a Visual Inspection
First, start poking around! You’ll want to look at all the accessible components but also dig a little deeper too. Are there any leaks you can see? Signs might be oil, water or refrigerant pooled on or around the unit. Check to make sure vents aren’t blocked, nothing looks noticeably broken, and everything looks correctly hooked up. If something doesn’t look right, give Gilman Cooling and Heating a call.
Get to Cleaning
Time to grab the cleaning supplies! A dirty HVAC system can quickly lead to issues. You’ll want to clean off condenser coils, the blower, vents, ducts, air filter, and other parts that look dirty. While you are at it, go ahead and lubricate any moving parts (like the motor and bearings) to reduce friction and wear. If you aren’t sure what to clean or how to clean it, the techs at Gilman Cooling and Heating would be happy to help.
Perform Some Basic Checks
Does everything seem to be running smoothly when you turn your HVAC system on? Even if it does, you might want to perform a few basic checks to make sure you’re not missing anything. For example, you’ll want to check the safety controls. Do the limit switch and flame roll out switch both work correctly? Test all system controls, including the defrost cycle, to make sure everything is starting, operating, and shutting off correctly. Then, measure the temperature difference between the supply and return air as well as the gas pressure. If you are uncertain of how to complete any of these tasks, ask a professional HVAC technician for help.
